Having worked for the Atlanta Humane Society and Pets are People Too for more than 5 years - let me tell you:

Boarding is a great option...for you, but not so much for your dog.

The reality is:

1. Your dog is stuck in a cage (in a very loud and unfamiliar environment).
   
   
2. Your dog has to be given a special vaccine (called Bordatella or "kennel cough") just to protect them from this disease which is common in kennels due to the number of animals
   
   
3. For most dogs it is extremely stressful! Imagine being taken from your calm home and put into a cage, in a room with 100 or more other dogs and strange people letting you move around and go to the bathroom only once every 12 hours.
   
   
4. It can be really expensive. The standard rate for boarding a 40+ pound dog is around $25 a day and for very large dogs it can be as high as $40 a day - for EACH DOG. So if you have multiple dogs (or even cats) you are looking at hundreds of dollars a week.
